I work as a music and music technology lecturer at Barnsley College. I am also a songwriter and performing musician, freelance sound engineer, producer and video editor. This is the hub for my music, studies and other creative projects.

As a continuation of my Masters dissertation (completed 2010), I am working on a system of Real Time Rhythmic Automatic Accompaniment otherwise known as the ‘Automatic Accompaniment Project’ (AAP). Essentially the system is a sequenced backing track that pushes and pulls along with live musicians as an attempt to move away from more restrictive ‘click-track’ backing tracks. (The system breakdown can be found on pages 44-51.) I am writing an article for inclusion in the Journal of Music Technology & Education, which discusses the gap in music technology academia for pop music.

As a part of my Masters, in 2009 I created a Synthesis Tutorial program using Max5. I updated the program early 2010 (v1.03) for general release and it can be found through the Synth Tutorial page of this site: /tcsynthtutorial. It is totally interactive and is intended for anyone who is interested in learning or teaching the basics of sound synthesis.
